The AmeriCorps Program: Healthy Families for a Brighter Future is a community-driven initiative dedicated to improving the health and wellness of children, teens, and families throughout Hidalgo County. Funded by the OneStar Foundation and the Corporation for National and Community Service, the program empowers AmeriCorps Volunteers to serve local communities by promoting healthy lifestyles and increasing access to wellness resources.

Through nutrition education, physical fitness activities, parent workshops, and community health events, AmeriCorps Volunteers work directly with youth and families to address critical health concerns such as childhood obesity, juvenile diabetes, and limited access to preventive health education. Volunteers provide engaging, hands-on programming designed to encourage healthy habits, active living, and positive decision-making among children and teens.

The program serves more than 1,000 youth annually across Boys & Girls Club of Pharr-San Juan club sites and community locations throughout Hidalgo County. By creating safe, supportive, and educational environments, the Healthy Families for a Brighter Future AmeriCorps Program helps young people build confidence, develop lifelong healthy habits, and gain the knowledge needed to lead healthier futures.
