AT&T, in partnership with Human I-T, presented 100 refurbished laptops to Boys & Girls Club of Pharr – San Juan families in need of technology in the home. AT&T worked with Human I-T to fund this donation as part of the AT&T nationwide commitment of bridging the digital divide. These laptops will help provide families with tools and resources necessary to fully participate in today’s digital world.
The digital divide is an issue students face with lacking internet access, computers or skills needed at home to keep up with the benefits of the online world. AT&T is working to close this gap through their AT&T Connective Learning Initiative, a $2 billion company wide commitment from 2021-2023, that addresses the digital divide with internet accessibility affordability, and safe adoption.
AT&T chose to support the Boys & Girls Club of Pharr-San Juan with this issue to further the organization’s mission of providing over 9,000 youth & teens annually with a safe and nurturing environment to enable all children to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible individuals.
“We greatly appreciate AT&T and Human I-T for their donation of laptops and related resources that will give our students access to the tools and technologies they need to succeed. This falls right in line with the goals of our organization. We are working to build good citizens for tomorrow who have the skills to compete in an increasingly online and digital society. That is success by any measure.” said Alfredo Mata, Jr. Chief Executive Officer of Boys & Girls Club of Pharr – San Juan.
“We use the internet every day to access learning, economic, health and other online opportunities,” said Hidalgo County Commissioner Eddie Cantu. “Unfortunately, many students and families in Pharr simply don’t have the tools they need to do this at home. Today is about closing that divide in Pharr. I appreciate AT&T, Human I-T and the Boys and Girls Club for coming together for this important event.”
“Robust and reliable internet connections – and the tools to harness their power – are critical for our students and their families,” said State Representative Sergio Muñoz Jr. “These tools and technologies increase educational and economic opportunities and help level the playing field for Pharr students as we all compete in an ever-connected world.”
The Boys & Girls Club of Pharr – San Juan extends is sincerest gratitude to AT&T and Human I-T for this impactful investment that will help positively shape the future of club youth & teens. The organization sends a special thank you to the supporters who made this possible including AT&T Vice President of External & Legislative Affairs, JD Salinas III, State Representative Sergio Muñoz, Jr. and Precinct 2 Hidalgo County Commissioner, Eduardo “Eddie” Cantu.
